office-shot-1

Lobo Energy is committed to making the University of New Mexico a national leader in energy efficiency and sustainability.

In the 1990's, the University of New Mexico campus’s energy infrastructure was failing to meet the demands of its facilities. Energy costs were soaring, and conservation needed to be addressed.

To meet this monumental challenge, Lobo Energy Inc (LEI), was formed in 1997 as a separate corporation by the University of New Mexico under the “University Research Park and Economic Development Act”.

LEI was formed as a non-profit corporation that employs seven staff members and exclusively serves the University of New Mexico.

Through Lobo Energy’s creation, the University of New Mexico has successfully completed countless energy infrastructure upgrade projects since 1997 and has provided for a more sustainable and affordable production of energy on campus.

Lobo Energy's project-focused and outcome-based approach is key to it's success. By prioritizing well-defined projects with clear objectives and goals, Lobo Energy is able to stay focused and execute effectively. This approach has enabled Lobo Energy to deliver innovative solutions and continually improve the University of New Mexico's energy affordability and sustainability.

What is cost avoidance?

According to EnergyCAP, whose software LEI uses to calculate energy performance, cost avoidance is the Measurement and Verification (M&V) of energy and cost savings due to energy management projects.

In other words, Cost Avoidance is the dollars that you avoided spending due to the implementation of energy management activities.
